Pilates

[pi-lah-teez]

noun,  a system of physical conditioning involving low-impact exercises and stretches designed to strengthen muscles of the torso and often performed with specialized equipment.

By combining breath work with classical Pilates and alignment principles, I work to engrain the following Pilates fundamentals into your everyday.

breath | Find your rhythm. Feel the beat.
All exercises are done with the rhythm of the breath and the heartbeat. We focus on expelling all of that stale air out of your lungs and inhaling fresh oxygen to revive the muscles.

concentration | More attention leads to greater results.
It is the mind that guides the body and the best way to center the mind is to put the body in action. No movements are done haphazardly or on autopilot. The breath enables us to focus, allowing for complete concentration, the more attention paid to each movement, the greater the results.

control | Maximize the experience.
The number one principle in the Pilates method is “Thou shalt use control.” Careless, sloppy movements have no place.  We do not let habit – most often wrong – or gravity take over. Once you have control over your body, you are able to find the deeper connection and in turn, maximize the experience.

centering | Find stability outside and within
Centering is the main focus point of the Pilates Method. All the work starts from and is sustained through the center. Joseph Pilates called this center your “Powerhouse.” We engage the Powerhouse to provide stability in all of your actions.

flow | Find ease in the action.
The full workout is a flowing succession of exercises performed with vigorous dynamics. There is a minimum of movement, especially in the transitions, for a maximum flow.

precision | Quality over quantity.

By focusing on the accuracy of each movement, you will achieve the maximum results/experience. You must pay the utmost attention to detail. All exercises have a clear structure, a precise form, and an optimal dynamic. Work with quality instead of quantity.

It is my goal to educate you as to the WHY and HOW of each movement.  Once you understand the method, and you truly feel it, the experience and the results take on a whole new meaning.
